Portretten_boven_elkaar_rumte_ertussenAbout me

Fashion tells stories. Stories about identity, culture, history and the times we live in. I explore, write and share those stories through articles, books, educational programmes and exhibitions.

While studying Fashion at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, I discovered journalism as a way to uncover the stories behind clothing. Since then, I have written interviews, feature articles and trend reports, conducted research, visited international trade fairs and exhibitions, and closely followed developments within the fashion industry.

Books

My fascination with fashion history and visual culture has resulted in several books. In 2021, Mode ABC (Fashion ABC, Waanders Publishers) was published, an illustrated alphabet book introducing children to the world of fashion in a playful and engaging way. Two years later, the same publisher released my book Hair – 150 Hairstyles, Beards and Moustaches, a richly illustrated reference book exploring the history and cultural significance of hairstyles from around the world.

Earlier, I wrote a book about the work of fashion designer and artist Claes Iversen. I also write educational non-fiction books for young readers for publisher Schoolsupport, covering topics such as 'Fast Fashion and vintage' and 'Knitting and crochet'.

School visits & art education

Stories truly come to life when they are shared. Through De Schrijverscentrale, I visit primary schools across the Netherlands, where I combine storytelling with interactive workshops. Together, we explore how fashion, language and imagination connect, encouraging children to express their own creativity.

Since 2023, I have also worked as an arts educator for Stichting De Rode Loper op School. Together with visual artist Francesca Vonck, I develop tailor-made educational programmes in which fashion, art and language reinforce one another. My aim is not only to introduce children to art, but also to encourage them to investigate, create and tell their own stories.

Exhibitions

I also enjoy contributing to exhibitions behind the scenes, helping to shape and communicate their stories. In 2026, I wrote all gallery texts for the fashion exhibition Reflections on Fashion at Kunstmuseum Den Haag. For Museum JAN, I contributed to the public programme surrounding several fashion exhibitions, including a film screening with a panel discussion and a creative  workshop.

In 2025, together with Francesca Vonck, I was guest curator of the Children's Art Biennale (KinderKunstBiënnale) organised by Stichting De Rode Loper op School, the concluding exhibition of Collectie Amsterdam at OBA Amsterdam. We were responsible for the artistic concept, exhibition design, communications and for initiating collaborations with a range of partners.

Whether I am writing, teaching or contributing to an exhibition, I am always looking for new ways to make fashion accessible, inspiring and meaningful for a broad audience.
